WHAT IS A BOARD GAME RETREAT?
This board game retreat allows guests to immerse themselves in all things board games and make memories with other gamers, within a historic Victorian hotel in Mid-Wales.
We've run these Retreats over the last two years and are proud of making them as inclusive and joyful as possible. Whether you're a returning member of our flock, coming with a group or arriving alone, we'll make sure you're involved and playing with others.
TELL ME MORE!
We will have a large, open gaming space (called The Nest), with access to our board game library. The Nest will be open from 10am-10pm each day, with members of the Silly Goose team on hand to recommend, teach and get people playing together. Outside of these hours, guests are welcome to continue playing outside of the gaming space.
Over the event days, we'll be running a number of unique, optional experiences. We'll be sharing more about these closer to the date, but our staple Blood on the Clocktower games will certainly be taking place!
THE GAMES
Our games library has something for everyone, with us on hand to help teach and explain our games. Our collection is always growing, and we'll be updating our lists as our library expands!
In addition to being on hand to recommend and teach games, we'll be running scheduled sessions to teach and demonstrate a number of games. These will be organised in advance with guests invited to sign-up before and during the Retreat.
GAME ON!
Don't see the game you're after?
Many of our guests love bringing their own games so they can share them with others. This is a great way to find people for those favourite or new games that you're itching to get to the table!
We'll have a dedicated area that is separate from the Silly Goose library for your own games.
THE VENUE
The Metropole Hotel & Spa is a unique, historic Victorian hotel in Llandrindod Wells, Mid-Wales. It has over 100 ensuite bedrooms, flexible event spaces, and cosy lounges perfect for gaming or relaxing. Enjoy the Rock Spa, featuring an 18-metre heated pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and gym.

THE AREA
Playing games is by no means mandatory! For those looking for a good balance of activities, the area itself offers a range of adventures.
The hotel is located in the charming Victorian spa town of Llandrindod Wells, surrounded by breath-taking Mid Wales countryside. Explore serene lakes, lush hills, and scenic walking trails. Discover the stunning Elan Valley, wander the Rock Park, or spot red kites at Gigrin Farm. With endless outdoor adventures, it’s the perfect escape for nature lovers looking for a break between games!

COMMUNITY
We're passionate about building a community and growing our events organically. Before the retreat, guests will be invited to a private Discord server to connect with other guests in advance, and to keep chatting afterwards!
We will have a number of optional, larger-group activities to bring people together over the Retreat.
We'll also be having our dinners as a group, allowing everyone to continue chatting outside of the game room.
SOCIAL GAMING
There will be a number of 'sign-up' boards which guests can use if they're organising a specific game, or after more players. We've found these are a great way to get people involved and encourage social gaming.
We also aim to make our Retreats as accessible as possible. We're proud to have had neurodivergent guests at our previous retreats, and we try to make them inclusive and joyful for all.

FAQs
Can I bring my own games?
Yes! Whilst our games library covers a wide range of titles, and will continue to grow before this retreat, guests are welcome to bring their own games to play with others. We will have a separate area for games that you bring, to make it clear that these are not available to everyone.
Is it family friendly?
Unfortunately, not this time. We'd love to offer family retreats and events in the future, but this event is limited to over 18's only.
How does the Discord group work?
We will email each guest with a link to a private Discord server in the weeks leading up to the Retreat. We've found its a great way to connect before and after each retreat. You do not have to join, and will not be missing out on anything during the event. We find it better than using a group chat (such as whatsapp), as it will not have any personal information or contact details visible.

Will there be Walk-In Tickets this time?
Unfortunately, not for this event. Previously we have offered locals the option of joining in by paying for day tickets. For this event, gaming will be for Retreat guests only.
Can I extend my stay?
Of course! Extend the fun by adding extra nights to the stay. Please see below for shoulder night pricing and contact us to book these. We also offer upgrades to Superior and Turret rooms.
Whats new this time?
We're focused on steadily growing our Retreats. We'll have a larger gaming area, a dedicated eating area (called The Pond), volunteer team members to help teach even more games, bookable gaming sessions for specific titles, non-game related activities and more!
